Flora and Fauna

An unexpected genre for me…

When my first website was developed, it was a Christmas gift from my wife to me. It brought me to literal tears. That’s a different story for a different time. But, I share that to share this, when she developed that website she had been secretly gathering photos of mine resizing them and prepping them for web display. One of the sections of that site is this one, Flora and Fauna. I would have said at the time that I never set out to shoot such photos, but they were in my files and edited, so I must have right? At any rate she exposed me to a genre of photos that subconsciously was a blind spot. Since then, it’s become somewhat deliberate. The header photo for this section is a pair of Rainbow Lorikeets. It has turned into a favorite and has sold as a print fairly well. I thought it was a throw away. There is a portion of this section that was shot at the San Diego Zoo. In it I was deliberately shooting to capture the eyes of each animal. It is probably one of my favorite vacations and favorite shoots. There are a set of emotions and thoughts contained in those eyes that had a very real impact on me. I hope they offer the same for you.
